Biography

   Prof. Leonardo Masotti      leonardo.masotti@unifi.it

 Leonardo Masotti was born in 1939 in Faenza (Italy). He received the "Laurea" Degree 1963 in Electronics Engineering at University of Bologna and "Libera docenza" of "Applied Electronics" in 1969. He became Full Professor in Electronics at University of Florence in 1976. From 1976 to 1979 he has been Chief of the National Research Council Project of "Ultrasound in Medicine" and since 1989 he is the director of the doctorate course in NDT (Non Destructive Testing). He has been director of the "Electronic Engineering Institute" of the University of Florence during years 1980-1983 and 1990-1993. From 1981 to 1986 he has been President of the "Italian Society of Biomedical Ultrasound" and since 1992 he is President of Research Consortium CEO ("Centro Eccellenza Optronica") of Florence. He is also a Member of "Regional High Technology Director Board" (Florence) as well as of the Editorial Board of Journal "Fisica Medica". Among the scientific committees he belongs as member there are: "Cardiovascular Imaging", "Istituto di Fisiologia Clinica" and "CESVIT". He has been president of the scientific committee of the 22nd International Symposium on "Acoustical Imaging" and currently he is president of the Committee University-National ResearchnCouncil (CNR) of Florence. Up to now he is inventor of 30 patents and author of 180 scientific and technical papers.

   Prof. Elena Biagi      elena.biagi@unifi.it

Elena Biagi was born in Florence, Italy. She received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Florence in 1982. From 1982 to 1991 her research was mainly devoted to ultrasonic material characterization and medical imaging. Since 1991 she has been an Assistant Professor of the "Electronics and Telecommunications Department" of the University of Florence and became Associate Professor, for Optoelectronics, in 2001. Her current interests deal with the design of dedicated ultrasonic transducers, signal processing for biological tissue spectral parameters extraction, design and realization of fast electronics for radio-frequency real time processing. Since 1996 her teaching activity concerns optoelectronics and sensors. She appears as inventor of 15 patents and she is author of 60 scientific and technical papers.

   Prof. Lorenzo Capineri      lorenzo.capineri@unifi.it

Lorenzo Capineri was born in Firenze, Italy, in 1962. He received hid degree in Electronic Engineering in 1988, the Doctorate in Non Destructive Testing in 1993 and Post-Doctorate in 1994. In 1995 became associate researcher and in 2004 associate professor of Electronics at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Florence, Italy. His current research activities are in design of ultrasonic guided waves devices and pyroelectric sensor array, signal processing for pipes and landmines detection with ground penetrating radar. He worked in several research projects in collaboration with national industries, the Italian Research Council (CNR), the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the European Space Agency (ESA), AEA Technology and UKAEA (England), ISTC (International Science and Technology Centre) (Moscow, Russia) and NATO. He is coauthor of 4 Italian patents and coauthor of 3 book chapters and about 90 scientific and technical papers. He is senior IEEE member since 2007.

   Marco Calzolai      marco.calzolai@unifi.it

Marco Calzolai was born in Fiesole, Italy in 1956. He earned the Diploma in industrial electronics in 1976. He joined the Ultrasound and Non Destructive Testing Laboratory of the Department of Electronic Engineering, University of Florence, in 1977. Since 1987 he has technical coordinator of the Phonometric Laboratory of the same department. He is coauthor of 9 Italian or international patents and coauthor of scientific and techinal papers.

   Andrea Giombetti Piergentili      giombetti@unifi.it

 Andrea Giombetti Piergentili was born in Florence (Italy) in 1969. He received the technical qualification in "Broadcast electronics" in 1987. He is the laboratory technician since '89 at the "Electronics and Telecommunications Department" of the University of Florence. He gained a strong experience of Operative Systems and networking as well as hardware assembling.

   Simona Granchi      simona.granchi@unifi.it

 Simona Granchi was born in Figline Valdarno (Florence - Italy) in 1968. She received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering and the PhD Degree in 1995 and 1998 respectively. At the moment she is a collaborator of the "Electronics and Telecommunications Department" of the University of Florence. Her interests were devoted to local spectral multi-resolution analysis of RF ultrasound signals. Currently, her research activities are focused on tissue and cancer characterization by means of discrete wavelet transform implemented by digital systems for Real-Time operation mode. She is also inventor of patents and author of international scientific papers.

   Gionatan Torricelli      gionatan.torricelli@unifi.it

 Gionatan Torricelli was born in Figline Valdarno (Florence - Italy) in 1976. He received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering in 2001 and the PhD degree in 2004. At the moment he is working on research projects of the "Electronics and Telecommunications Department" of the University of Florence. His main interests are related to "Ultrasonic Non Destructive Evaluation" and "Image Processing". In 1999-2000 he attempted four Master Courses at the "Computer Science Department" of the "Courant Institute" belonging to the NYU (New York University).

Andrea Bulletti was born in Castiglion Fiorentino (Italy) in 1976. He received the Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Florence, Italy, in 2002. From June 2003 until today he has been working as contract researcher at theDepartment of Electronics and Telecommunications of the University of Florence. He worked in research projects in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the European Space Agency (ESA). He is co-author of about 10 scientific and technical papers. His research interests concern non destructive testing methods for composite materials and characterization of high-voltage dielectric materials.

Pierluigi Falorni was born in Barberino di Mugello, Italy, in 1966, graduated in Informatic Engineering with a Laurea degree at Università degli Studi di Firenze (2000) with a thesis on advanced processing methods for ground penetrating data (GPR). He earned the doctorate degree in Non Destructive Testing at the same University, and he is co-author of 17 papers on image and signal processing or ground penetrating radar.

   Enrico Vannacci      enrico.vannacci@unifi.it

 Enrico Vannacci was born in Pistoia (Italy) in 1978. He received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering in 2004. His thesis research concerned the "Acoustic Characterization of Ultrasound Contrast Agents through the use of Arbitrary Waveforms and Multi-pulse Techniques”. His main interest regard the study of the non-linear interaction between ultrasound and contrast-agents microbubbles.

   Ivan Arezzini      ivan.arezzini@unifi.it

Ivan Arezzini was born in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1976. He have study at "G. Marconi" high school, at Prato, with electronic specialisation. He received University Degree in Electronic and Telecommunications in 1999 year and then he received the Laurea Degree in Electronics Engineering at University of Flornce. He have work at Italian Research Council (C.N.R.) - IFAC at Florence, developing methods, softwares and equipments for measuring aerosol in environment pollution. He have also work in Remote Sensing for develope methods and softwares for managing and elaborate data form satellities. He have attained his PhD in "Non Destructive Evaluation System" at D.E.T. (Electronics and Telecomunication Department) of the Univeristy of Florence. His research activities for PhD concerned biological tissue cheracterization and developeare diagnostics systems for cancer detection by radio-frequency analisys using neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, ... He also work in umanitarian demining and artistical heritage in developement of a robotic system for automatic scanning of big areas using a subsuperficial microwave radar and others sensors.

Fabio Cioria was born in Florence (Italy) in 1983. He received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering in 2010. At the moment he is working on research projects of the "Electronics and Telecomunications Department" of the University of Florence with a scholarship. His main interests are related "Ultrasonic Non Destructive Evaluation", Signal Processing" and "c++ programming".

Giulio Pelosi was born in Florence (Italy) in 1981. He received the "Laurea" Degree in Electronics Engineering in 2009. At the moment he is working on research projects of the "Electronics and Telecomunications Department" of the University of Florence. His activities on "Ultrasonic Non Destructive Evaluatin" and Finite Elements analysis and simulations.

Sara Lapi was born in Florence (Italy) in 1985. She obtained the Bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering by the University of Florence in September 2007, with a thesis on the experimentation ofaccelerometric sensors in the monitoring of breathing. In April 2010 she graduated in Biomedical Engineering at the same University, withan experimental thesis on the development of the system for theevaluation of respiration during sleep and wake Currently she has a research fellowship by the "Electronics and Telecomunications Department" of the University of Florence. Her main interests regard the study ofnon-invasive methods for monitoring vital signs.
